History: Dani Moonstar's mutant powers shattered her happy childhood as she began having uncontrolable nightmares, including one of the death of her parents. Shortly after the dream, Dani's parents disappeared and she believed them dead, haunted by dreams of a demon bear she thought was responsible. Her grandfather contacted Professor Charles Xavier about Moonstar's powers, but when Donald Pierce murdered Dani's grandfather, Dani came to live at Xavier's school. Soon afterward, the school was attacked by the Demon Bear, and with the help of her New Mutants teammates, Dani discovered that her parents had transformed into the bear, and she was able to free them. When the New Mutants were kidnapped and brought to Asgard (home of the Norse Gods), Dani was selected by a winged horse named brightwind which then made her a Valkyrie, a legendary Chooser of the Slain. She returned home with Brightwind and her new abilities. Over time, her abilities began to change and grow, and life went on. She worked on several X-teams, served as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and worked undercover in the Mutant Liberation Front. A battle with the reality-warper Arcadia broke Dani into various parts of herself and various powers. When she was put back together, she had regressed to more limited powers.Since that event, Dani's powers have fluctuated, but seem to be on the wane, a situation that frustrates her. Dani recently left the life of the various X-teams and attempted college. But she did not last long, as she got distracted by a young mutant who was arrested in Boulder. Dani got the girl, Wind Dancer, out of legal trouble and brought her back to Xavier's. Once there, Dani was offered a job by Xavier to recruit new students. She forged a bond with a group of students, and even became legal guardian to one, Elixir. When the school reorganized, Dani stayed and became advisor to a squad of students, Wind Dancer and Elixir among them, who carry the name of the team she holds dearest -- the New Mutants. Showing how much her time at the school has calmed the once angry young teen, Dani has also started a relationship with a human federal agent named Justin Pierce, the heroic nephew of the villain who killed Dani's grandfather. |
